Revisiting The Thrilling And Eventful 2020-21 NBA Regular Season

The 2020-21 injury-riddled regular season has seen teams rise from the bottom and fall from the top. The Eastern Conference finalists are at No. 5 and No. 7 and the 14th seeded team last year is the 5th seed. The Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns have emerged as contenders out of nowhere. Needless to say, this regular season has shaken things up a bit. Some of the drops are due to injuries as in case of the Lakers who caught the injury bug and missed Anthony Davis and LeBron James for part of the season. They made their way into the playoffs and are looking to upset the Suns in the first round.
Excitement had increased for the regular season due to a newly introduced play-in tournament in which teams seeded 7-10 entered a 'play-in tournament'. The Lakers beat the Warriors and the Grizzlies upset the Warriors to clinch the 8th seed. Stephen Curry carried a team which, according to LeBron James, was a lottery-bound team.
As to trades and signings, the blockbuster trade of the season was undoubtedly the James Harden trade to the Nets to form a superteam of KD, Kyrie, and James Harden. The trio have lived up to the hype despite only playing 8 games together. Nikola Vucevic was also traded to the Bulls as the Magic blew up their roster and traded both Vucevic and Aaron Gordon. Chris Paul signed to the Suns and led them to the 2 seed.
The 72-game compressed schedule caused more injuries to stars in this season. KD, LeBron, Anthony Davis, James Harden, Jaylen Brown, Donovan Mitchell, to name some, were all injured in this regular season. It did change things up with teams losing due to injuries such as the aforementioned Lakers. Teams looking like contenders dropped down the standings and weren't enjoyable to watch due to injuries to stars. Other teams like the Phoenix Suns ended a 10-year playoff drought by clinching the 2 seed behind the leadership of the 36-year old Chris Paul.
There have been some amazing moments like the Anthony Edwards poster over Yuta Watanabe, Miles Bridges' vicious dunk over Clint Capela, a ridiculous game-winning 3 by Luka Doncic among many others. This season truly was one of the best to watch. Now, sit back enjoy as the playoffs unfold and a team is crowned the championship. For fans of those teams which did not make the playoffs, hope your team drafts a star in a studded 2021 draft!
